Bio

I'm a transplanted New Englander. My parents are Paul Oscar Avery (1921-2003) and Betty Wheaton Avery (1925-1992). My mom's and aunt's interest in family history was passed to me. I have been doing family history research for over 30 years, most of which has been in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Maine.

Corrections or additions to my postings are welcome. All suggestions are responded to within 48 hours unless I am out of town. If you supply me with additional information, I will always research and double check it before posting it to a memorial. On 17th century memorials, and earlier, I ask that any edits be accompanied by supporting information to include sources. Modern scholarly research has overturned or updated assumptions and data found in early genealogies and histories.

I have completed projects on all cemeteries in Hawley, Buckland, Colrain, Shelburne, Heath, Rowe, Florida, Savoy, and Charlemont, Massachusetts. And another in Sears Cemetery in Barnstable County. Completed family name projects include the Jenks Family in Rhode Island and the Groton Avery Family. If any of my entries connects to your ancestors, let me know.

Some conventions I follow….
1) Old Style (pre 1752) dates: As Find A Grave has yet to facilitate these dates, I always use the later year, if known.
2) I refrain from using the "Sr." suffix. No such suffix has ever appeared on a birth certificate or record.
3) Similarly, I refrain from using the "I" suffix.
4) As "Infant Son", "Infant Daughter", and "Infant Child" appear to be the preferred norm on Find A Grave for identifying young children not named, I use these as first names.
5) I use the prefix "Mrs" on married women with unknown maiden names to distinguish them from an unmarried woman and to prevent erroneous merges.

Please use the EDIT button on the memorial to initiate correspondence and recommend updates. I am no longer able to respond to emails that do not provide quick and easy access to the memorial in question. Also, if your e-mail is not provided on your profile page, I won't be able to respond to you if a response is needed. The public messages are not appropriate for back and forth discussion. And, if you have no email, I will not process edits until you provide source data.

Regarding transfers outside guidelines..... I will consider transfer to those who have a proven and active track record of collaboration on FindAGrave. Under NO circumstances will I transfer to anyone who has their messages shut off AND does not include an email address on their profile page. Collaboration is what makes Find A Grave work!
