Rachel Peden, daughter of Alexander Peden b. 1762 and Abigail Walton b. abt. 1771. The Peden family were devout Quakers. Rachel attended Westland Monthly Meeting with her family but in 1825 she and her sisters Lydia and Margaret were accepted to the Short Creek Meeting (Jefferson Co. Ohio) on 20th of Sept. 1825. Joseph and minor brother Alexander got a certificate from Westland Monthly Meeting to Middleton, Dec. 22nd, 1825. After her parents died, Rachel and her sisters, went to Sistersville, Tyler Co. WV, near where her uncle Obediah Peden had lived as she had many cousins there. She met and later married John Brown b. 1801 there on July 9th, 1827. Their first child Alexander Peden Brown was born at Sistersville, WV. on Nov. 25th, 1828.

They later moved to Hamilton Co. Ohio and then to Eugene, Vermillion Co.IN. The family was blessed with 11 children, Alexander, Israel,Benjamin F., William O, susan E, Jane, Eliza E., Andrew, Esther, Ann and Margaret, all living to adulthood, except Esther.

Rachel's cousin Mary Polly Peden Draper, moved to Vermilion Co. IL. and Mary's husband James died there in 1955. Mary Draper died in 1862, 5 years before Rachel died. I presume they would have visited each other. Their father's Aleaxander and Samuel were brothers.

After Rachel died in 1867, John Brown moved to Fontana, KS. to live with his son oldest son, Alexander and family. John Brown died Jan. 30th, 1877, at age 75. Andrew and Benjamin also moved to Miami County for a time. Susan moved there before or after her mother died and married Michael Skaggs. What became of these girls, Jane age 25, Ann age 17 and Margaret age 14 at the time of their mothers death in 1867 is unknown. If you have information, or PICTURES, please contact me.
