Eliza was born to John Brown and Rachel Peden who was a Quaker.

She married William H Butler on Sept. 2, 1869 in Jackson, MO. at abt. age 26.

Children known to be born into this family were shown in the 1880 Census in Vermillion Co, IN - Lucien L. born 1871 and John Brown Butler born 1876, d. 1938 in Hennepin Co. Minnesota, was cremated by Lakewood Cemetery, ashes returned, so no monument. Eliza and William adopted his cousin, Rose Armour, (b. 1875) from her father William Thompson Armour, after her mother Margaret Ellis b. 1850 died in 1878. Rose went by the Butler name.

The 1900 Us Census for Vermillion IN. listed "Ina" Inez Farley living with the family, shown as lodger. She was a relative of William's, from his maternal side and came to live with them when her mother, Clara Welch Farley died when she was 5 years old. 1900 U.S. Census listed her as Ina Farley. The recorded record of her marriage to Clyde LeRoy Pratt on Nov. 9, 1910, listed her name as Inez Butler Farley. The Butler's may or may not have adopted her, but they raised her.

Their son Lucien was a farmer, 1930 census shows him working in trucking, John Brown Butler became a teacher and later a salesman at Mac Millan Co. in Chicago, IL.
