Andrew was born to John Brown and Rachel Peden. His Mother was from a devout Quaker family, Alexander Peden b. 1762 and Abigail Walton b. abt. 1771, last residing at Pike Run Twp, in WA Co. PA. The John Brown family left W. Virginia and moved to Ohio, then went down the Ohio river on a flat boat that John had built, got off before the water fall and went west to Eugene, Vermillion Co. IN., where Andrew was born.

Andrew and Sarah E Brown are shown in Osage twp, Miami County, Kansas State census in 1867. Sarah was his first wife and they had 1 daughter. When Andrew and Sarah parted he moved in with his brother Alexander & family including his father John Brown, on Alexander's farm near Fontana, KS. May 17th, 1872 he married for the 2nd time to Angeline Ballard in Cass County, Mo. Andrew and Angeline then left on horseback for Rooks County, KS and he filed for a homestead in Medicine Twp. A son was born to them. Family legend says Angeline and the little boy died in a house fire, but some say she left on foot with the child. They were never seen again.

Andrew Brown and Carrie Belle Crain (age 15) were married Jan. 4, 1880 near Igo, KS,at the home of her mother Elizabeth (Dial) Crain Geddis, in Greenfield Twp, Rooks County. Andrew and Carrie had five living sons, Charles W., Chalmer C., Alfred F., Calvin and Albert E Brown. Andrew was a farmer, raising cattle, feed and grain and a commercial fruit orchard that kept him busy sorting and selling apples all winter. He had a variety of fruit trees including peaches. In Mar. 1905 his sister Susan Brown Skaggs shipped him trees by rail from Fontana, Miami Co., KS.

1905 was a bitter cold winter of -20 to -3o degrees. He lost more cattle than he took to market.

A letter from his sister Susan E. Skaggs, at Fontana, KS. to Andy written in 1905 was found in his wife Carrie's bible over 50 years later. The letter is now 113 years old.

After Andrew died in 1924 a letter to one of Andy's sons arrived from his and Sarah's daughter. She said she heard that her father had died and she just wanted to know about her half brothers. This was the first that his wife Carrie Belle, knew about his wife Sarah E. & daughter in Miami Co. KS. from whom he was never divorced. I would like information on the daughter (who was born about 1867) and Sarah E. Brown. Please contact me.
