Jesse Peden/Paden/Peeden was born August 5, 1800 in Pennsylvania (Source: cemetery transcription; censuses) to Alexander & Abigail (Walton) Peden (Source: Waunita M Herron). His siblings were: Ann, Obadiah, Darius, Joseph, Lydia, Rachel, Alexander and Margaret Peden (Source: Waunita M Herron).

He arrived in Indiana before 1828 as we find him marrying Nancy Lindsy(sic) on September 22, 1828 in either Clark or Orange County, Indiana. (see Source 1).

From the 1830 Census, it looks like Thomas was born, as well as 6 other children (1 other male and 5 female) are listed in the household, whether the children are hers or his is not clear. (see Source 3)

From the 1840 Census, we see his household has shrank considerably. From the age of the children, I would say that they are Thomas and Margaret. (see Source 4)

From the 1850 Census, we see Thomas and Margaret (now Amanda) are at home. (see Source 5)

Wife Nancy and daughter, Margaret died in 1854, [Household had Smallpox Illness and mother and daughter died 18 days apart. (See Source 8)]

Speed forward to 1856….Now, we find Jesse marrying a Nancy M. Williams (may or may not be her maiden name; see Source 2) on July 13, 1856, Owen County, Indiana

And the 1860 census, we find Jesse and his wife Nancy, with son (m.1) Thomas and a baby, Nancy in the home of Elisha and Elizabeth Condor (marriage records state maiden name was Litten, possibly d/o Nancy (McCormick) Peden and her first husband.)

Jesse and Nancy both died in 1878, her in July, and him in October (see Source 9)
