Alexander was born to Alexander Peden St. and Abigail Walton and he grew up with his half brother Thomas and his other siblings.

He attended the Quaker, Westland Monthly Meetings until Dec. 22, 1825 when it is recorded that Joseph Peden and his minor brother Alexander were given a transfer certificate to the Short Creek M. Meeting in Ohio. In 1830 a transfer to the Blue River M.M. in Indiana.

Alexander married Emily Catherine Liter (b. 1821 d. 1875) on Jan. 13, 1839 in Jeffersonville, Clark Co., Indiana. One child was born to this union, Ona J. Peden, (b. 1840). The 1850 US Census in Harrison Co. IN shows her name,Ona J. Peden, age 11, living with her mother and stepfather Willis H Rasor. Ona moved with her family to Meade Co. KY later on.

The book Peden/Paden in chapter 6, pg. 575 states that he came down the Ohio River on a flat boat and stopped at Utica, Clark Co. Indiana because there were falls farther down the river. Here Alexander started a wood yard to supply wood for the steam boats along the river. Uncle "Alleck" as he was known, would take passengers to the house and give them fresh cider.

There is confusion over the book calling him Alexander Peden Sr. as the father was b. 1762, they said died before 1825. You will have to determine who they mean. The book shows he died about 1843 which would mean the son's date of death. Please contact me with any information.
