Darius was born to dedicated Quakers, Alexander Peden and his 2nd wife, Abigail Walton. He grew up with his half brother Thomas and siblings Ann, Obediah, Jesse, Lydia, Joseph, Rachel, Alexander and Margaret Peden.
After his parents died he married Jane Hayden in about 1827. Two children were born to them in PA, Sarah and Alexander. The family then moved to Clark Co, IN. and are in the 1830 US Census and were still living there in 1849. Charles, Thomas J., William N., Elizabth and Martha were born to them in Indiana. Darius transferred from Westland Quaker M.M. to Blue River in Indiana.
Darius purchased 40 acres in WA Co., from the Bureau of Land Management on Sept. 20th 1839. Certificate #115166, accession/serial #: IN2780.127 was issued 09/20/1849. He was shown as being from Clark Co. IN at the time of the purchase.
1850 us census gave his occupation as a miller. His wife died at age 47 and he at age 60.
