Joseph was born to Alexander Peden (1762-1825) and Abigail Walton (1771-1825) at Pikes Run, WA Co. Pa. He grew up with his half brother Thomas and siblings, Ann, Obediah, Jesse, Darius, Lydia, Rachel (married John Brown), Alexander and Margaret Peden.

Dec. 2, 1825 Joseph Peden and his minor brother Alexander received a certificate of transfer from the Westland Meeting to the Short Creek Meeting in Columbiana Co.,Ohio. This was the year their father died in WA. Co., PA. Later Joseph and Alexander transferred to Blue River M.M. in Indiana.

Joseph moved to Clark Co. IN, before 1835 and married Lucinda Clark Mar. 13, 1835. They later moved to St Clair County, MO. Dates of his b.and d. are from the Peden/Paden book. 1850 US census showed his occupation as a miller, 1880 as farmer.

All their children were born in Indiana: Joan, John Clark, Eliza Anna, Deborah Ann, Orilda Ann, Jonathan "Dock", Samuel Clark, and Mary Ann Peden. I am requesting information on all the females married surnames.

1900 US Census shows Joseph at age 95 living with his son Jonathan and family. Some say he went on a trip to visit relatives in CO. and died there in 1901. The cemetery listed his name as buried there and a small stone is under a tree for his monument.
