George Washington Sinclair was the son of George Washington Sinclair and his second wife Lucinda Cosby. He was the grandson of Isaac Sinclair and Letitia Douglas, and the great-grandson of Wayman Sinclair and his wife UFN Shirley.

George was the brother of these documented children:
James, Thomas, Nancy, Ransom, John A., Letty, Wayman, Margaret and the half-brother of William, Unknown, Letitia, Douglas, Sarah Jane (Sally), Abigail, Horatio and Eliza.

George married Mary Frances Newkirk, daughter of Elias Newkirk and Nancy Tillman in Crawford County. They were the parents of: Mary J., Sarah Ellen, Arzella Alice, Arma Eliza Ann, James W., John Elias, Charles T. (not Elias), and Clara E.

Mary died in 1879 and George then married Nancy Hallowell on Mar 13, 1881. Nancy had previously been married to Daniel Benjamin Esarey and was the mother of two girls who died in infancy. George and Nancy were the parents of Floyd E., Gilbert Elwood, Carrie Ethel, Nancy and family members said there were others.

Nancy died by 1888 and George then married the widow Julia Anna Woolsey Chanley (aka Annie) who brought two children into the marriage. George and Julia were the parents of: Edna Ida., another Nancy, Howard Waymon, two unknown infants, Lloyd Elmer and Almeada aka Amelia.

If George died in Indiana, George would be buried with his son Floyd and daughter Clara. Their grave is marked by a large monument. There are many unmarked burial lots surrounding the Sinclair burial area.

A special thank you to Donnie Spraggins and Ardie Colburn for providing me with a very clear picture of the inscription on George's headstone.

Update as of 3/3/2011: I was in Dubois County researching and found that George and his wife Annie (Julia Woolsey) sold their farm near Birdseye in February 1912. In December 1912 Annie died in Pike County from heart disease and was buried in Anderson Chapel Cemetery, Pike County, next to her daughter from her first marriage, Jane (Chanley/Chandler) Wolven. Julia's (Annie) death certificate states she is a WIDOW therefore we presume that George died between February and December of 1912. However, widows are also divorcees under a different guise, so George and Julia may have separated or divorced. There is no record of George being in Dubois County at any time after he sold his farm therefore it's also possible George went to Arkansas or Missouri where other children were living, or even to Indianapolis. With the exception of Gilbert, most of George's children had moved out of the county, and son Charles was in the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City. The mystery of George's exact date and place of death is still ongoing.

In April 1899 George purchased three acres of land from John Pfaff Sr., for $25. Section 23 Township 2 SR 3
1904 George W Sinclair was on the delinquent real estate tax list.

NOTE: Please don't send me edits or death dates without documentation to verify your edit. This is due to inaccurate information floating around on the internet and other family trees. If you have a death date, please upload the document showing his death to this memorial because I have searched by personal visit in Perry, Dubois, Crawford, Orange and Pike Counties for George's death and have found nothing. Thank you.

SECOND NOTE: THERE ARE NUMEROUS CHANGES TO FAMILY TREES AT OTHER WEBSITES THAT INSIST GEORGE DIED IN 1912. I CHANGE IT AND SOMEONE CHANGES IT BACK. TO DATE, AS OF 1/2017, NO DOCUMENTATION HAS BEEN FOUND PROVING THE DEATH OF GEORGE SINCLAIR IN 1912. HE MAY HAVE MOVED TO MISSOURI, ARKANSAS, ILLINOIS OR IOWA WHERE OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS WERE LIVING. NOTE NOTE NOTE!!!
