Moved from the Atkins/Steward Cemetery. This cemetery was moved to the Patoka Memorial Cemetery and contained at least 100 unmarked graves.

Horatio Sinclair's birth date is estimated from his parents divorce document and his date of death is yet unknown but he is presumed to have died before 1900. The death certificate for his second wife in 1900 states she is a widow and she was buried in Birdseye Cemetery.

In 1894 Horatio was given $10.00 by Dubois County as a "Poor" allowance. The Huntingburg Signal, Dubois County, December 13, 1894.
In 1895 Horatio was given $10.00 by Dubois County as a "Poor" allowance. The Huntingburg Signal, Huntingburg Indiana, March 21, 1895. Horatio is listed in the local newspapers as being poor and was allotted a specific amount of money to subsidize his meager income.

He would have been buried in Atkins/Steward Cemetery with his son William and family. Also buried with him would have been his first wife, Mary "Polly" Sanders/Saunders. It is without a doubt that their graves would probably have been unmarked and would not have been moved during the Patoka Reservoir Project. In the two areas of the Atkins cemetery where the Sinclair families were buried, there are more than a dozen unmarked graves surrounding each family.

Horatio was the son of George Washington Sinclair and George's first wife Rachel Sharp. At the age of 15 or 16 his parents were divorced and Rachel gave four of her minor children to George and his second wife Lucinda Cosby of Orange County Indiana to raise, claiming "ill health" and also that she needed to protect her inheritance in Harrison County that she received from her deceased father (source divorce papers in Harrison County Indiana). These children were Douglas, Horatio, Abigail and Eliza. The other four children were already married.

Horatio married Mary Sanders on 12 Jun 1838 in Orange County Indiana. They were both underage and required the consent of their parents. They were married by William C. Walls, JP. Horatio Sinkler to Polly Sanders. After marriage, the family moved to Greene County Indiana where other family members, including other Sinclair cousins, were living. They remained in Greene County for a period of time and by 1860 we find them living in the northern area of Dubois County.

We find the following documented children:
George Washington b. 1844
Mary Ann
Sarah Marinda
Caroline Elizabeth
William Horatio

The 1840 census show Horatio and Mary living near Horatio's father in Orange County and they have no children born to them yet.

Mary died about 1882. We do not have a firm death date for her.

On August 18, 1884 Horatio married again to the widow Elizabeth Bailey. Elizabeth had been previously married to William Sanders.
