Douglas is named in the October Fall Term 1835 divorce papers of his parents as being "upwards of 20" years old which gives him an approximate 1815 birth year which matches the census returns, the headstone has an October 4, 1812 birth year and the age on the headstone gives Douglas an 1811 birth year. According to the census returns, his parents marriage date and the proven ages of his siblings, he would have to have been born about 1814 or 1815. There were 8 children born to the marriage as stated in Rachel's divorce papers and she put a stop to marital activity after the last child was born, as outlined in the divorce papers.
It is also very likely that his middle name was William, as is consistent with the findings of the naming of the other children in this Sinclair family. Researchers: check deed records, land holdings, court cases, newspaper archives for proof of middle name.
