Wayman Sinclair of Orange County, Indiana, son of George Washington Sinclair and his second wife Lucinda Cosby.


Discrepancy as to birth year. All of Wayman's Civil War pension papers state he was born in 1840. His death certificate states 1841.

Married to Frances "Fanny" Maria Mason of Martin County on July 18, 1864 at Dover Hill, Martin County, Indiana. They were the parents of several children including John Hardin (1865-1869), Nancy Clementine (1867) and Margaret Jane (1868-1937)


3rd husband of Matilda Laughlin of Martin County married June 10, 1876 in Martin County, Indiana. Father of James Harvey Sinclair (Clara Hall). Step-father of Nancy Nugent, Joseph Chambers and Elizabeth "Etta" Chambers. Fanny Mason was a cousin.


Enlisted in the Union Army, 11th Indiana Infantry out of Henry County, Indiana, and mustered out in Baltimore Md on 26 Jul 1865. Applied for Civil War pension in 1890, application no. 801.258/certificate no. 577.265 filed in Maryland (Incorrect-filed in Indiana) 9 Jul 1890, Wayman Sinclair Company A 11th Indiana Infantry. Discharged at Fort McHenry, Maryland on 28 July 1865.

According to Civil War Pension package: Places of residence: McCameron, Martin County, Indiana from 1865 to 1868; Arney, Owen County, Indiana from 1868 to 1870; McCameron, Indiana from 1870 to 1874; Koleen, Greene County, IN from 1874 to 1875; Bloomfield, Greene County, IN from 1875 to 1895; Elnora, Daviess County, IN from 1895 to 1896; Bloomfield IN from 1896 to 1909; and Jasonville, Greene County, IN from 1909 to death. I have Wayman's Civil War pension package.


Lost his right hand in a buzz saw accident while working at a saw mill on 13 Aug 1883. Hand was severed at the wrist joint. Wayman was working with John T. Lamb at the time, who witnessed the accident.


There are online trees popping up that have Wayman married to Louisa UNK. He was never married to Louisa.
