Juel Dean Pettis Sr., 95, of Fairchild and formerly of Eagle, passed away Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, at Angels Grace Hospice in Oconomowoc.
Juel Dean was the son of Ella and Charles Pettis. He was born Sept. 20, 1909, at the farm homestead of his parents who had been early settlers of Fairchild. He was the youngest of 10 children. All have preceded Juel in death.
He was united in marriage to Iva Mae Collins on Sept. 28, 1930. The couple lived in the town of Fairchild for seven years before moving to Waukesha during the depression.
Through the years, Juel worked at Fox's Dairy, Fox Bottling Company, the Borden Company and the Wisconsin School for Boys. In 1972, the couple retired and returned to Fairchild.
Juel has always been an avid hunter. He enjoyed deer hunting this season. In fact, he hunted Sunday, went to Waukesha for week-long visit where he suffered a stroke that evening.
Throughout his life, Juel went on many fishing trips to Canada where they set up rough campsites.
Children and grandchildren enjoyed such trips. In later years, Juel raised horses and won prizes riding his horse, Pat, in the Fairchild Lion's Club parade. His transportation to town was on an all-terrain vehicle.
Juel was preceded in death by his wife, Iva Mae, in 1992; his daughter, Marianna Chapman, in 1995; and a granddaughter, Colleen Chapman, in 1958.
He is survived by his special friend, Sandra Wickert of Fairchild; his children, Ella Holberg of Waukesha, Gladys (Harry) Bowey of Mukwonago, Barbara (Dwight) Wright of Mukwonago, Georgia (Warren) Woolridge of Burlington, Sandra (Sydney) Staton of Waukesha, Juel Dean (Joan) Pettis Jr. of Hammond and Iva Peck of Fairchild; and his son-in-law, Robert Chapman of Mukwonago. He is further survived by 34 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, umerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, at Mealy's Funeral Home, 103 Eagle St., Eagle. Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until time of services. Officiating will be Harry Bowey. An additional visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta. Burial will be at Fairchild Cemetery.
Mealy's Funeral Service, 594-2442, is assisting the family.
