Accidentally Shot
Fairchild, Wis. - (UP) - George Pettis, 38, died here yesterday the victim of a hunting accident.
Pettis, according to four companions, fell and knocked over a gun which was leaning against a tree. The double-barrelled shotgun discharged both barrels into Pettis' abdomen.

Accidentally
Killed on Hunt
Augusta, Wis., Dec 3. - (Special) - George Pettis, 38, oldest son of Charles Pettis, Fairchild, died here this afternoon at 4:30 o'clock, about half an hour after he had been accidentally shot while fox hunting near this city.
Pettis, accompanied by his brothers, Floyd and Jewel [sic], his cousins, Harry and Joe, and Albert Fentek, was hunting about four miles west of here in the bluffs between Price and Osso.
Floyd and Jewel and Harry Pettis had holed a fox on the side of a hill and were trying to dig it out when George Pettis, coming to join them, slipped and fell against a double-barrel shot gun belonging to one of them, that was leaning against a tree. Both barrels of the gun were discharged into his abdomen low on the left side.
He was taken at once to Dr. Prill's office here and an ambulance was summoned from Eau Claire, but he died of internal hemorrhage before the ambulance arrived.
Pettis was married and is survived by his widow and four children.

He married Marie Katherine Whitcomb 17 Oct 1918 in Saint Mary's Church in Altoona, Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
