At 16 years old, Marie taught school in Montana and lived alone in a hut next to the school when it was -40 or -50 degrees in the winter. She married Dr. Louis Anthony Volse 12 Sep 1919 in Multnomah County, Oregon. Marie and Louis lived in California. Louis was a doctor in Beverly Hills.

Marie Volse
Marie K. Volse, 93, formerly of Culver City, Calif., died Monday at Golden Age Home, Chippewa Falls.
She was born in Fairchild and taught school there before moving to Monntana where she taught grade school. She then moved to California and married Dr. Louis Volse Sr. He preceded her in death in 1969. She moved back to this area in March 1991.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Louis Volse Jr. of Culver City, Calif.; a brother, Juel Pettis of Fairchild; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers, George, Carl, Harlo [sic], Floyd and Earl Pettis; three sisters, Edith Hagman, Olive McSorley and Doris Nutting.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church, with the Rev. Eugene Klink officiating. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Smith Funeral Chapel, where there will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., and Wednesday from 9 to 10 a.m.
