Obituary from the "Daily Tribune" of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin dated 24 Jan 1977:
Services were held today in Fairchild for Jean Pettis, 53, 921 17th St. S., who died of cancer Saturday at Riverview Hospital.
Officiating at St. John's Catholic Church in Fairchild was the Rev. David Ziegelmaier. Burial will be in Fairchild Cemetery.
Miss Pettis was born March 22, 1923, in Fairchild, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Pettis, and attended Eau Claire State Teachers College. She taught in rural schools in Eau Claire county for seven years and here in the Wisconsin Rapids School District for 25 years. She came here in 1951, taught at Howe School for two years, and transferred to Emerson School in 1953. When Mead School opened for the 1955-56 school year, she began teaching there and was a second grade teacher at Mead until her recent illness. She was also a member of Catholic Daughters of America.
Survivors include a brother, Kenneth, Waukesha, and two sisters, Joyce Pettis, Wisconsin Rapids, and Mrs. Joseph Vovee [sic], Eau Claire.
Anderson Funeral Home, Augusta, Wisconsin., was in charge of arrangements.
