Toward the goal of documenting every Civil War veteran associated with south-central Pennsylvania, as of August 2024, I have documented more than 27,500 Civil War veterans, data amassed as much as possible from primary sources over nearly four decades of research and counting. That includes more than 2,000 days at the National Archives in Washington DC reading compiled military service records as well as more than 9,000 Civil War veterans' pension files, descriptive lists, and other military documents located there. I have accessed company registers that are available online, read more than 15,000 Civil War veterans' obituaries (which tend to be unreliable regarding military data), accessed more than 20,000 death certificates for veterans and their family members (which tend to be unreliable for birthdates), am intimately familiar with the censuses of that era, and have walked every cemetery in the region. This research will continue as long as my mind and body permit, and I am still going strong.

PLEASE: When contacting me regarding a post, include the Findagrave number of the post and the name of the individual to which you are referring. It will speed things up a great deal.
