Burgess Marie Bryant is the daughter of Charles Zachariah and Alice Siddie Moore Bryant. Born in Milan, Gibson Co., Tennessee, she was named for her great grandmother, Elizabeth Burges McMullen, Bryant. She had 5 sisters and 1 brother that lived to be grown. She was raised on a farm in rural Milan, TN. When all the children were grown, her father sold the farm and moved into town where he did home building and carpentry repair.

On June 18, 1912, at age 22, Burgess married Elhanan Ruble Bryant from Harrisonville, MO. They married in Gibson Co., TN. She and Ruble made their home in Muskogee, OK. They never had children. Burgess was a homemaker and Ruble worked as a Bank and Insurance Inspection Loan Officer. It was their wish to be laid to rest here in Harrisonville with Ruble's family.

Burgess was my great aunt. Although I never met her in person, I heard my grandmother speak of her often. Her husband preceded her in death and when she died, she left no will. However, they had done well in life and she owned many lovely things. Since they had no children, those things had to be disposed of. My grandmother spent a month at their home taking care of that job. All their belongings and furnishings were sold at an estate auction. I had just turned 14 years old when Burgess died and remember my grandmother being in Oklahoma for about a month taking care of this. I had no idea that for Christmas that year, I'd receive a service for 12 of antique Lenox China. It had belonged to my great aunt Burgess and was purchased at auction for $100.00. I cherish it still today.

Rest peacefully aunt Burgess....
