BIO: by Karla Todd Sherer - granddaughter

Daughter of Charles Zachariah and Alice Siddie Moore Bryant. Lura Jane grew up with a brother and 6 sisters. On 18 Nov 1915, she married Murphy Foster Hudson, Sr. They raised a son and 3 daughters and they are Murphy Jr., Alice Jane, Betty Ann, and Jettie Joy. Lura had an independent spirit and was quite a character at times. She was raised in Milan, TN on a farm but upon her marriage, spent most of her adult life in Idabel, McCurtain Co., Oklahoma. Foster was an attorney there and also a judge. They separated shortly before his death. Upon their separation, Lura moved to Dallas, TX, where she worked for a doctor for many years. After Foster's death, she was twice married to his brother Alva Hudson. Both times ended in divorce. The majority of her later years were spent in Newton, TX, living with her eldest daughter, Jane.

Lura loved being outdoors fishing and gardening. Those were her lifelong passions along with pro baseball which she adored. She watched baseball and never missed a World Series. Raised on a Tennessee farm, she enjoyed telling stories of driving the wagon and of riding the old cow to the barn in the evenings. A very talented seamstress, she enjoyed doing sewing for others after she'd retired. Lura could look at a dress in a store window and then return home to lay out her own pattern from memory and make an identical designer dress. It was a true gift. She made beautiful quilts also. If it involved stitches, Lura could make it. A loving grandmother and great grandmother. She was "Mamaw" to her grandchildren, but when the great-grandchildren came along, she insisted they call her Lura. She did not plan on being anyone's "Granny". She was funny and fun and is greatly loved and missed by those who knew her. She was a very strong lady who said what she thought and meant what she said. She and my youngest daughter adored each other. I will never know what it was that made their bond so special but it was fun to watch. My daughter named her first girl as a namesake and passed on a bit of her special love for Lura Jane when she gave birth to Marissa Jane. We will always miss you Lura....
