Charles Zachariah is the son of George Washington and Mary Jane Bishop Bryant. His Great Grandfather was John Bryant, a full blood Cherokee who's honored on a monument with his family in Poplar Springs Cemetery . Charley lived his whole life in Gibson County. He had 9 siblings although 3 died as babies. All these children are connected below.

Charley, married Alice Siddie Moore on August 23, 1887, in Gibson Co. They lived on a farm for many years and there, they raised one son and six daughters. They also had a son and two daughters who died as babies. These 10 children are:

Burgess Marie Bryant Bryant 1889 – 1961
Ruby May Bryant Fly 1891 – 1967
Ione Elizabeth Bryant Gwaltney 1893 – 1979
Lura Jane Bryant Hudson 1895 – 1990
Fay Bryant 1897 – 1898**
Ryal Bryant 1899 – 1900**
Julian Egbert, Sr. Bryant 1901 – 1995
Jettie Lee Bryant Fulmer 1904 – 1993
Alice Eleanor Bryant 1905 – 1906**
Evelyn Ida Bryant Nichols 1907 – 1988

Charley loved being outside. He raised a large garden every year and also had many fruit trees, grapes, and he maintained a smokehouse for their meats. He enjoyed sharing this part of his lifestyle with his grandchildren and telling them stories of the past. My grandmother - his daughter Lura Jane, was the same way. She loved growing things and loved telling us stories of the "old days". Part of their farmland is now included in the Milan Arsenal along with the Bryant Cemetery. After the children grew up and moved away, Charley and Alice sold the farm and moved to town. Charley worked as a carpenter doing home building and repair in and around the Milan area. He still loved to grow things and continued to do so until his death.

Charley was my maternal Great Grandfather. Although I never knew him in life, I've come to know him in death though my family tree and 3 of his living grandchildren who remember him well.

Charley is buried next to his loving wife, Alice Siddie Moore Bryant. There are many other Bryant family members nearby in plot #264 as well as other plots in Oakwood Cemetery. The babies that died are in Friendship Cemetery except Alice Eleanor who has not yet been located.

Rest peacefully Charley and know that your family remembers you and thinks of you often. You left a nice legacy....
