Powers Rites Held Friday
Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Rozella Powers, 74, long-time Carnegie resident, were held at 2 p.m. Friday, September 28, at the First Baptist church. Rev. Bob Williams, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene, officiated.
Mrs. Powers died last Thursday in the Carnegie hospital, following a lengthy illness. Interment was in the Carnegie cemetery.
Born August 23, 1899 in Whiteboro, Texas, she came to the Carnegie, community with her parents as a small child. She was married to Samuel B. Powers December 25, 1915 and settled on a farm east of town. She had resided at the local Nursing Home the past year. She was a member of the First Baptist church.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1949 and three sons.
Survivors include four sons, Raymond of Wichita Falls, Ruben of Olton, Texas, Jimmy of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Gene of Carnegie; six daughters, Mrs. Dorthy Matthews and Mrs. Betty Ruth Polly of Wichita Falls; Mrs. Barbara Patterson of Fort Worth, Mrs. Mattie Shackelford of Hydro, and Mrs. Doreta Lawrence and Mrs. Kathern Clinton of Carnegie; 51 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three brothers, Marcus Anderson of Oklahoma City, Leon Anderson and Taft McBride of California; and four sisters, Mrs. Exie Reynolds of Hobart, Mrs. Imogene Cook of Colorado, Mrs. Ruby Dyer of Oklahoma City, and Mrs. Mildred Keller of California.
