Mr. Scott had done his morning feeding and returned to his house. Then he went out for his mail and was returning to the house when he suffered a heart attack as he reached the porch. He died almost instantly.
Mr. Scott was a son of the late John M. and Mary Elizabeth Rinehart Scott, both of whom were members of early families in that section of Greene County. He was born and spent all his life on the farm where he died, being very successful as a farmer and stock raiser. He was active in various community and district affairs and served in various township offices. He served on the school board and the board of supervisors, and was a member of the County Democratic committee, being active in different, campaigns. He was once a candidate for county treasurer.
He was a member of the Coallick Methodist Church and of Independence Grange.
In 1896 he was married to Miss Harriett McNeely, who died 12 years ago.
Surviving are nine children. Mrs. Mary Stephenson, of Waynesburg; Fremont, of the home farm; Mrs. Margaret Gordon, of Waynesburg, RD; Russell Scott, of the Greensboro Star Route; John, of Lansing, Mich.; Raymond, of Waynesburg; Austin, of Rogersville; Mrs. Mildred Moore, of Philadelphia and Mrs. Myrene Chrislip, of Fairmont, W. Va. One son, Albert, is dead.
Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Della Shriver, of Waynesburg RD; and Mrs. Belle McNeely, of Waynesburg RD 3; one brother, Randolph, of Waynesburg and 22 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 o'clock, Tuesday, March 17, in the home, in charge of the Rev. O.W. Bolton. Interment will be in the family burying ground on the Scott farm.
