OBITUARY

THE NORTH PLATTE TELEGRAPH
North Platte, Nebraska
Tuesday, August 18, 1925

Mrs. Anna Goltry Duckworth, wife of Oliver Duckworth of this city, passed away at her home on West 8th Street, Sunday morning at 3 o'clock, death being due to paralysis with which she was afflicted in January of 1922. Mrs. Duckworth was born in Indiana, January 10, 1862. When a young girl her parents moved to Iowa where she was united in marriage to Oliver Duckworth in 1880.

To this union, thirteen children were born, all of whom are living but two boys. They are Fred M. Duckworth of Salt Lake City, Utah, Mrs. E. L. Dukes, Mrs. Carrie Poush, Mrs. Bonnie Baughman and Mrs. Flora Sanborn, all of Sheridan (Chariton), Iowa, Harley of South Dakota, Joe of California, Mrs. William Sonnemann, Nelson K. and Paul L. of this city and Mrs. Ruth Alexander of Seattle, Washington.

Besides her husband and children, there remains to mourn her departure, her mother, Mrs. Emeline Goltry, of Russell, Iowa; three brothers, Walter S. Goltry, Albert R. Goltry, James B. Goltry; five sisters, Mrs. A. D. Drake, Mrs. J. M. Wright, Mrs. R. R. LaFollette, Mrs. Charles LaFollette, Mrs. Henry Cooper and many other relatives and friends. Three brothers and one sister have preceded her in death.

Three of the boys enlisted in the late war and two saw service in France. Calvin Raymond enlisted in Co. E 5th Nebraska Infantry. While in France, just 7 days before the signing of the Armistice, he met his death near Metz in the Argonne Forest. In April 1921, he was brought to this country and buried in Ft. McPherson. Donald O. enlisted in Sheridan (Chariton), Iowa and died of the flu in Camp Dodge twelve days before the Armistice was signed. The other son, Nelson K., enlisted in Co. A in San Francisco and saw service in France. The death of these two sons, coming as they did so close to each other, was a severe blow to this mother and cast a shadow over her life which time was unable to erase.

She was a member of the local Organization of War Mothers and any appeal made in behalf of a soldier or sailor always excited her keenest interest and a material outlay for assistance was always forthcoming. After a short prayer service held at the Funeral Home Monday at 4 o'clock, the remains were sent to Russell, Iowa where they will be laid to rest beside those of her son, Donald, on Thursday, Aug 20.
