He received his education in Livingston county schools and resided and farmed in that area until his retirement in 1957. He then moved to Kenosha. James married Margaret Irene Stott on January 30, 1919 at St. Paul's church in Odell, IL. They had three children, 2 daughters and one son.
Funeral services were held on March 14, 1972 at 9:30 a.m. from the Bruch Funeral Home. Burial was on Wednesday, March 15, 1972 at Odell, Illinois, in St. Paul's cemetery.
