Edward Michael Nolan was baptized as Michael Edward Nolan but almost always used Edward M. Nolan, however, his fellow workers at Owens-Illinois always referred to him as Mike. Edward was the son of William and Bridget Noonan Nolan. He married Julia Frances Turner on June 21 1920 in St. Bernard's church in Sunbury Township, IL. Edward was a farmer until the depression did him in and he went to work as a cook at the Dwight, IL veterans' hospital when it opened in 1935. He left the hospital for the Elwood Powder Plant in 1942. Because of his allergies to the powder, Ed moved to Streator in July 1943 and went to work for the Owens-Illinois Glass company, from which he retired (mandatory at age 65 at that time) in 1959 with the incredible pension of $16.50 per month! Edward was a WWI veteran, having served in France in 1918 and 1919.
