David was a glass blower and lived in Philadelphia most if not all his life. In 1860, David and his family were living in the 18th Ward, North East Division, of Philadelphia. Two addition children, Eugene and Joana, have been added to the family. A fifth child, daughter Martha Catharine Faunce, born in 1856, does not show in the 1860 census.
He served as a private in Company B, 91st Infantry Regiment Pennsylvania from January 16, 1864 until he was mustered out in Washington, DC on July 10, 1865. During this period, the 91st Infantry Regiment fought at The Wilderness, Laurel Hill, Spotsylvania Court House, North Anna River, Cold Harbor, and Petersburg.
For some unknown reason, he and his wife were not living in the same house at the time of the 1870 and 1880 census. He died on November 10, 1901 of cerebral softening (the death of the white matter of the brain due to softening of the brain tissue) and was buried in Palmer Ground in Philadelphia on November 14, 1901.
