Mary A. Franklin, my 2nd great grandmother, the daughter of Benjamin and Elizabeth Franklin, was born about 1819 in Philadelphia. In 1850, Mary was living with her husband, David Faunce, and her two children, Mary E. Faunce and William H. Faunce. hey were living in Kensington in Philadelphia County. In 1860, Mary and her family were living in the 18th Ward, North East Division, of Philadelphia. Two addition children, Eugene and Joana, have been added to the family. A fifth child, daughter Martha Catharine Faunce, born in 1856, does not show in the 1860 census.

For some unknown reason, she and her husband were not living in the same house at the time of the 1870 and 1880 census. I could not locate where she was living in 1870 but in 1880, Mary is living with her sister, Martha Chester at 1125 Vienna Place in Philadelphia. Also living with Martha is Mary's mother, Elizabeth Franklin, her son William H. Faunce and Mary and Martha's nephew, George Collar. Mary was working as a dress maker. She is also living at 1125 Vienna Place and working as a dress maker in 1887 and 1890.

There appears to be an error in the 1880 census since it shows Mary as being a widow. Why is this an error? Because I found a 1900 census showing David boarding with a William F. and Mary E. Eggleton. I believe Mary E. Eggleton is Mary E. Faunce, David and Mary's daughter. I have also found a death certificate for David Faunce that shows him dying on Nov 10, 1901.

Mary was living at 445 Wildley Street in Philadelphia when she died about 25 September 1898. This is the same address her sister, Martha Franklin Chester, lived when she died. Mary was buried at the Palmer Grounds on September 28, 1898.
