Susan Jane "Jennie" York was the third of eleven children born to Rev. Brantley York, D. D. (1805-1891) and his second wife Mary Wells Lineberry (1819-1910). She was born at Trinity, Randolph County, NC, where her father had recently founded the Union Insitute Academy, which later became Trinity College, and is now known as Duke University.

Jennie married Capt. John E. Rheim (1836-1897) around 1859. He was, at the time, professor of mathematics at York Collegiate Institute, in Alexander County, NC, which had also been founded by Rev. York. He was a Captain in the 38th North Carolina Regiment, Confederate States Army, and was head of the Burnsville Academy, Burnsville, Yancey County, NC for many years. Around 1891, Captain Rheim became a professor at Weaverville College, near Asheville, Buncombe County, NC, where he remained until his death in 1897.

Sometime in 1898-1900, Susan went to live with her son Oscar Y. Rheim, in Butte, Silver Bow County, Montana, and lived out the rest of her life there.

Susan Jane York and John E. Rheim had, I think, four children:

1. Kavanaugh B. Rheim (1860-25 Dec. 1899) m. Margaret Rosa Estes (1861-1956). Buriied Missoula Cemetery, Missoula, Montana, Find A Grave # 54095339

2. Oscar Y. Rheim (c. Sept. 1866-28 June 1948) m. Gertrude. lived at Butte, Montana.

3. Brantley Edward Rheim (c. 1877) was a student at Trinity College (now Duke University), Durham, NC, in 1894.

4. John Emory Rheim (6 March 1881-19 March 1959) m. Bessie Vaughn (1883-1931). He 2nd married Ann F. ? (1908-1991). He lived at Butte, Montana until 1941, when he moved to Chula Vista, California. Buried Glen Abbey Memorial Park, Bonita, San Diego Co., California, Find A Grave # 144706412
