Memories of her father from Mary Jane Schlindwein Fliger (my mother) on 27 Aug 2010 when she was 86 years old:

He was a quiet man but when he got mad at some of the sons, he really let them have it.

During World War II, Grandpa Schlindwein was a civil contractor working for the Federal goverment on the oil pipeline in Alaska. He did two tours in Alaska and was paid handsomely. The money he made allowed the family to have their first telephone, their first vehicle (a truck), his beloved record player, and to buy the big house across from the school in New Hampton.

After the war, he went to work for Forkenbrock Hardware and shortly thereafter he started his own plumbing and heating company, specializing in Lennox furnace. He became known as "Lennie Lennox."

He always maintained a big garden and keeped the children busy with planting, weeding and harvesting.

He had one heart attack while sitting in a chair in neighbor Jim Malloy's yard and was recuperating from that when he had his second heart attack which was fatal.

Directions to gravesite provided by Duane Heit:
The cemetery has a circular drive in the center with driveways that divide the grounds into unequal quarters. This grave is in the southeast quarter of the northeast section. Enter the middle gate; go as far as the red Walter Kennedy memorial on the right next to the driveway. The Schlindwein headstone is off to the right between you and the gate you entered.
