My Mother, at age 86 (August 2010), on her grandfather:
Mom was only 2-1/2 when her paternal grandfather died and to her knowledge he never saw her. Mom said her own mother told her that she'd never met him (she married his son six years before Charles' death). Mom also remembers the "women talk" when her father's mother and sisters would visit. Apparently Mom's grandfather was gone away from home for long periods of time and it was left to Mom's grandmother to raise the nine children.
