Richard Francis Schlindwein was born on December 13, 1939 to Leonard and Elizabeth (Schneider) Schlindwein in New Hampton, IA. Dick attended school in New Hampton and graduated from New Hampton High School in 1957. He then graduated from Loras in 1962. After his graduation Dick was united in marriage to Midge Whalen on October 6, 1962 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in New Hampton, IA. Dick worked in the insurance industry his entire life. The couple moved to Dubuque in 1977. On October 7, 1995 Dick was later united in marriage to Lynn Baskin in Des Moines, IA. For the last 18 years West Des Moines has been home.
Dick enjoyed golfing, political debates with friends and family, the Mississippi River, traveling and his family. Dick supported many charities, especially Boys Town.
Dick is survived by his wife Lynn Baskin Schlindwein of West Des Moines, IA; six children Thomas (Karen) Schlindwein of Waukesha, WI, Liz (Craig) Robley of Plymouth, MN, David (Johnine) Schlindwein of Johnston, IA, Kathy (Kevin) Pfohl of Dubuque, IA, Matthew Baskin of Durango, CO, and Andrew Baskin of Des Moines, IA; six grandchildren Amalie and Joseph Schlindwein, Lauren and Julia Robley, Mitchell and Claire Pfohl; his first wife Midge Schlindwein of Dubuque, IA; one sister Mary Fliger of Sunrise Beach, MO; one brother James (Suzanne) Schlindwein of Sturgeon Bay, WI; several nieces, nephews, and sisters-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Dennis and Steven; five brothers, Don, Leonard, Paul, John and Robert; four sisters, Margaret, Betty, Dorothy and Marjorie.
