He was born July 5, 1912 in the town of Norrie, the son of the late Martin and Mary (Hoks) Verkuilen.
On October 27, 1934 he married Hattie Wojciechowski in Hatley. She survives.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Richard Verkuilen, Eland and David Verkuilen, Brillion; four daughters, Barbara (Alfred) Ostrowski and Betty (Elroy) Koskey, all of Hatley, Patricia (Gerald) Miller and Kathleen (Michael) Ekern, all of Eland; three brothers, Melvin (Helen), Wittenberg, Elmer (Genevieve) Hatley and Henry, Appleton; two sisters, Marie Breske, Eland and Irma Radke, Wausau; 23 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Leslie was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, including Edward and three sisters, Agnes VanderKooy, Rose Schrieber and Cecelia Ploeger.
Funeral services were held December 30, 1980 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Wittenberg. The Rev. Claude Zabinski officiated. Interment was in the parish cemetery.
