Akes and born in the old Akes home near Decatur June 6, 1874 and died at his home in Decatur, Aug. 6, 1926. He married to Louisa Emmeline Bay March 8, 1896. Ten children were born to this union. Mrs. Eva Kirk, Davis City, E.
Warren Akes, Decatur, James O. Akes, Shenandoah, Mrs. Dale Kelley, Decatur, Lillian, Fred and Beulah at home, besides three daughters who died in infancy. He was survived by his aged father and mother who live at the old Akes home, by one brother, Don Akes, near Decatur, four sisters, Mrs. Emma Rex and Mrs. Amanda Umpress of Leon, Mrs. Mattie Rex, Leroy and Mrs. Lizzie Sloan, Dodson, Mont. He was member of the Odd Fellow Lodges of Decatur, Leon and Davis City.
Also of the Christian church at Leon, Iowa, and during his long sickness many times confessed his faith in God and when drawing near the close of his life told his children that he was ready for the departure. Funeral services were
conducted from the Palestine Baptist church, Sunday afternoon by Henry Esch of Van Wert. Burial was in the Akes family lot in the Palestine cemetery. It was
followed by a thank you card from Mrs. Harvey Akes and Children.
