Lavicy Ann McKern, daughter of Patrick and Emily
McKern, was born in Mercer County Missouri, March 24, 1851, and departed this
life at the home of her son Don near Leon, Iowa, May 4, 1935, at the age of 84
years, 1 month and 10 days. On November 8, 1871, she was married to William
Price Akes, and they located on a farm where she has made her home for the last
64 years.
To this union was born 11 children of whom four survive, Henry Donathan Akes,
Leon, Sarah E. Sloan of Dodson Montana, Emily E. Rex of Leon, and Mattie M. Rex
of LeRoy.
Her husband preceded her in death Sept. 19, 1932, and seven children, Stephen
R. Akes, Harvey A. Akes, William E. Akes, Ida. L. E. Akes, Lecta M. Akes, Mrs.
Laura E. Negley and Amanda Jane Umphress.
She also leaves to mourn her departure 36 grandchildren, 72 great
grandchildren, 12 having preceded her in in death. Besides the children and
grandchildren she leaves one half-brother Don Vanderpool of Cheyenne Wyoming,
and a host of other relatives and friends. She leaves 112 descendents.
