From her obituary in the Journal Reporter Thurs. Jan. 24, 1935. In part it said, Amanda Jane Akes was united in marriage to Thomas Otis Umphress of Leon on April 19, 1892. To this union six children were born. She leaves to mourn her departure her devoted husband and five dear children; Earl Raymond of Osceola; William Price of Leon; Lavicy Angeline Ingram of Mt. Ayr; and Charles Otis of Leon. One son James Harvey proceded her in death Jan. 29, 1916. Also twenty five grandchilren, One granddaughter? Thelma Beulah Umpress proceeded her in death July 12, 1927. She also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Oliver Rex of LeRoy, Mrs. Oscar Rex of Leon, and Mrs. ?Ted Sloan of Dodson Montana, and one brother Don Akes with her aged mother Mrs. W. P. Akes. She united with the Christian Church at the age of 17 and later she became a member of the Assemblie of God Church where she worked faithfully for the Lord until the time came for her departure to be with her Master
