In Part it reads Thomas Otis Umphress, son of Hugh Green and Mary Parr Umphress, was born May 19, 1871, in Decatur Co. Iowa. On April 19, 1893 he was married to Amanda Jane Akes, To this union six children were born; Earl
Raymond of Ottumwa; James Harvey; who preceded him in death Jan. 29, 1916; Ethel Boswell and William P. Umphress of Leon; Lavicy Ann Ingram of Eugene Ore. His wife Amanda passed away January 19, 1935. He later married Rebecca Bennett, who passed away April 4, 1952. He leaves one brother Charles E. of St. Joseph, Mo; one sister, Rosa Combs, and four brothers, James, William, Andrew and Harry having preceded him in death. Thomas was a loving husband and father. Many years ago he was saved and baptized in the Baptist church. Later he received the Holy Ghost. For the last several years he has been affiliated with the Leon Assembly of God Church. He lived in this faith until his passing.
