Apollonia Katherine (Schoenberg) Welle

Apollonia Schoenberg was born January 17, 1887 in Spring Hill, Stearns County, Minn to Martin & Katherine (Gerads) Schoenberg. She was the 3rd of the 9 children born to Martin & Katherine (Gerads) Schoenberg.

On November 9, 1909 when Apollonia was 22, she married Anton "Tone" Welle at St. Michael's Church in Spring Hill, Minn. The couple had 11 children:

Tone & Apollonia farmed briefly in St. Martin Township, Minn and in 1912, they moved to a farm near Lastrup, Morrison County, Minn. In September 1919, with their six children, they moved to a farm 1 mile east of Spring Hill, Stearns, Minn. They remained on the farm until retiring to Melrose, Minn around 1942.

Tone died on February 21, 1953 and Apollonia continued to live in her home in Melrose for 20 years. She was in the Pine Villa Nursing Home in Melrose for nearly 3 years and died there on Wednesday, November 3, 1976, at the age of 89 years.

Funeral services were on Saturday, November 6, 1976, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Frs. Vincent Huebsch, Burton Blums and Apollonia's nephew, Fr. Oscar Schoenberg celebrants.

Apollonia Welle is survived by 8 of her 11 children (see above); sisters Minnie (Schoenberg) Ellering, Melrose and Katie (Schoenberg) Athmann-Caspers, Spring Hill. At the time of her death she had 46 surviving grandchildren and 72 great grandchildren.

Apollonia Welle was preceded in death by her parents, Martin & Katherine Schoenberg, daughters Marie Welle in 1926 and Lonie Kraemer in March of 1961 and 3 grandchildren, Urb Kraemer, Roger Welle and Mary Kay Stroeing; brothers and sisters: Carl Schoenberg, Anna (Schoenberg) Welle, Joseph Schoenberg, Willie Schoenberg, Mary (Schoenberg) Braun and Henry Schoenberg.

Pall bearers were Stan Welle, Dale Welle, Gene Welle and Jim Welle, Dan Stroeing and Rudy Loxtercamp. Jack Rieland was the cross bearer.

Honorary pallbears were Ann Woeste, Bertha Hofmann, Mary Braegelmann, Marie Rademacher, Mrs Norb (Marie) Rademacher, Della Hinnenkamp, Rose Zenzen, Susan Olmscheid, Bertha Roehl and Mrs. Albert Van Beck.

Apollonia Welle is buried in Plot 7 of Row 1 in Section A of St. Mary's Cemetery next to her husband, Anton, and daughter, Lonie Kraemer.
