Joseph Schoenberg

Joesph 'Joe' Schoenberg was born December 19, 1888 in Spring Hill, Stearns County, Minnesota. He was the fourth child - the 2nd son - of Martin and Katherine (Gerads) Schoenberg.

Joe's siblings include 3 brothers - Charles "Carl"; Wihlem "Willie" and Heinrich Schoenberg; and 5 sisters - Anna Welle, Apollonia Welle, Mary Braun, Wilhemina "Minnie" Ellering and Katherine Athmann-Caspers.

On June 16, 1912, Joseph Schoenberg married Mary Ellering in Meire Grove, MN. Mary Ellering was the oldest daughter of Ben & Antoinette Anna (Lois) Ellering. The Ellerings owned the farm east of Meire Grove - directly across the road from Joseph's grandparents - J. Joseph & Anna Marie Schoenberg. Joeseph Schoenberg would have met Mary Ellering during his frequent visits to his grandpaents.

Joe and Mary had 16 children. Six died during infancy and the following children grew to adulthood:

Joseph & Mary's first son, Carl Schoenberg, was born 23 NOV 1918 and died 15 DEC 1918....which was the peak of the 1918 Influenza Epidemic. Their 2nd son, Edward Clarence, was born & died in 1919. They would also name their 6th son Edward Schoenberg.

J. Joseph Schoenberg's 3rd son was given the name Joseph but was called "Joe" in an attempt to distinguish the two Joes.

To honor his father, Joe Schoenberg name is 3rd son Joseph B Schoenberg. Joe B was born & raised on the Meire Grove farm until moving to Wisconsin around 1910.

Joe's older brother, Martin, also named his 3rd son Joseph Schoenberg but there was no middle initial used to uniquely identify him. (Joseph owned a farm north of Spring Hill - which was next to the farm of his father - Martin Schoenberg)

Joseph Schoenberg (Spring Hill) named his 4th son Joseph A "Josie" Schoenberg.

Joseph's older brother, Carl Schoenberg, gave his 2nd son the name Joseph M. Schoenberg.

Josie Schoenberg took over the Spring Hill farm owned by his dad - Joseph Schoenberg. Joe M Schoenberg bought a farm within 1 mile of his dad - Carl Schoenberg - which was also located north of Spring Hill, Minn.

The naming of multiple males Joseph Schoenberg often created confusion in the area and frequently one would hear the question 'Which Joe Schoenberg?"
