Tony Welle died on Wednesday, January 5, 2000 at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, MN. He was 84 years old. Funeral mass took place at St. Michael's Church in Spring Hill on Saturday, January 8, 2000. Tony was buried in the parish cemetery next to his wife, Mildred.

Tony Welle was born August 23, 1915 in Lastrup, Granite Twp, Morrison County, Minnesota to Anton J and Apollonia (Schoenberg) Welle. In 1919 Anton, Apollonia and their 6 children returned to Spring Hill, Stearns County, Minn. The family settled on a farm in Section 26 of Spring Hill township - approximatley 2 mile east of the village of Spring Hill.

On October 15, 1940, Tony married Mildred Eibensteiner at St. John's Catholic Church in Meire Grove, MN. The couple took over the farm belonging to Tony's parents around 1942 when the parents retired and moved to Melrose, MN. Tony and Mildred farmed in Spring Hill until 1970 when the 3rd generation of Welle's took ownership of the homeplace. Anthony "Junior" Welle, and his wife Dorothy, took over the Anton and Apollonia Welle family farm / homestead.

Tony and Mildred moved to New Munich, Minn and operated Tony's Bar until retiring in 1979. The couple returned to Spring Hill and moved into town.

Tony & Mildred's five children and spouses are:

- Donna Nathe and husband Maynard - Cold Spring, Gene Welle and wife Jane - Cold Spring, Junior Welle and wife Dorothy - Spring Hill, Sandi Feldewerd and husband Paul - New Munich, Lou Spanier and husband Jerry, and 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Tony has two surviving siblings, Edwin Welle of Richmond and Loretta (Welle) Rieland of Melrose.

Tony was preceded in death by his father (1953) and mother (1976)and his wife Mildred died March 31, 1986; brothers Joseph G, Clarence and Alvin Welle; sisters Leone Kraemer, Merena Stroeing, Alma Jacobs, Della Loxtercamp, infant sister Marie Welle, and a grandson, Kyle Spanier.
