Edwin H. Welle
1913 ~ 2003

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 14, 2003 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Richmond, MN for Edwin H. Welle, age 89, who died Thursday at the Koronis Manor in Paynesville. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Monday and from 9-10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning at the Wenner Funeral Home in Richmond. The Golden Smiles, St. Joseph's Catholic Aid, and St. Jude's Mission Circle will pray a rosary at 4:30 p.m., the Richmond Knights of Columbus will pray at 7:00 p.m. and parish prayers will be at 8:00 p.m.

Edwin Henry Welle was born on the family farm near Lastrup, Morisson County, Minnesota. He is the 2nd of the 11 children of Anton J and Apollonia K (Schoenberg) Welle. The first six years of his life were in Lastrup. In 1919 he moved with his parents and siblings to the family farm east of the village of Spring Hill, Minn.

On June 10, 1941, Edwin H Welle married Gertrude S Doll in the St. Martin Catholic Church. Gertie is the daughter of Peter and Anna (Stroeing) Doll of St. Martin, Minn. Edwin and his family lived on a farm 1 mile west of Richmond until 1967 and then they moved to Richmond, Minn where he was the custodian and groundskeeper for Sts. Peter & Paul Parish until his retirement.

Edwin was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Parish, St. Joseph's Catholic Aid, St. Jude's Mission Circle and the Richmond Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his children, Doris (Tom) Heying of Fort Ripley, Elaine (Jerry) Schaefer of Dassel, Stanley (Elaine) of Watkins, Mary (Elmer) Geise of Sobieski, Diane (James) Volk of Rice, Linda (Richard) Hauschild of Waite Park, Alice Fink of Little Falls, and Marvin (Jan) of Grand Junction, CO; sister, Loretta Reiland; 36 grand children and 28 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Welle (Feb. 18, 2002); parents Anton (1952) and Apollonia Welle (1976); sisters, Lonie Kreamer, Adella Loxtercamp, Merena Stroeing, Alma Jacobs; brothers, Tony Welle, Clarence Welle, Alvin Welle, Joseph Welle and infant sister Marie Welle.
