Irene graduated from Wolcott High School in 1938, where she was on the basketball team and a member of the choir, once singing on the Lafayette radio station, WBAA.
She married Eugene "Gene" Oberlander on Dec. 26 1940, (the same day that he proposed) in LaGrange County, Kentucky. He preceded her in death in 1999.
Irene was the longest living member of the Wolcott Christian Church, where she was treasurer for many years and sang in the choir.
