DISCOVER BODY OF BIRDSEYE MAN, 75, IN HIS HOME

Gilbert Sinclair, 75, was found dead Saturday afternoon in the home in which he lived alone in Birdseye.

Dr. G.A. Held of Jasper, the county coroner, said he had been dead about a week, probably as the result of a heart attack. He was last seen alive by anyone on the previous Sunday.

Surviving are the wife, Anna, of Birdseye; one daughter, Mrs. Hazel Wright of Birdseye; a son, Arnold, of Indianapolis; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was born on March 7, 1879, in Dubois county, the son of George W. and Nancy Hollowell Sinclair.

Graveside rites were held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Mentor Cemetery, with Rev. George Koch of Huntingburg officiating.

Alternate birth year 1879

Gilbert Sinclair was the son of George Washington Sinclair Jr. and Nancy "Annie" Hollowell. He was the grandson of George Washington Sinclair and his second wife, Lucinda Cosby of Orange County, Indiana. Nothing is yet known about his mother Nancy Hollowell. It is suspected that she was orphaned early in her life and bonded out to another family in Orange County. She has been found as Nancy S. Hollowell and Annie Hollowell.

Gilbert was one of approximately 20 children born to his father George from his father's three wives. This doesn't include the step-children from his fathers wife, Julia's first marriage.

Gilbert married Annie Belle Sigler on August 16, 1905 in Dubois County Indiana. His cousin, my great-grandfather William St. Clair and his wife Martha Sigler St. Clair, were witnesses at their wedding. Annie Sigler was my great-grandmother's sister.

Gilbert and Annie were the parents of two children, Hazel Roxie Sinclair and Arnold E. Sinclair. Gilbert was step-father to Annie's child with Charles Newton, Raymond Newton.

They moved to Crawford County and were living on Mitchell Creek Road by 1940.

Gilbert and Annie separated in the later years of their marriage but never divorced. Gilbert moved to Dubois County and Annie moved to her nephew Torrence St. Clair's farm and lived in the old log cabin that was on the property.
