Archie Bass

Archie Bass, 90, of Pinola, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008 at Hardy Wilson Memorial Hospital in Hazlehurst.

Services were held Thursday, Jan. 17 from Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery. Reverend Charles Rodgers and Dr. Robert M. Hanvey of Hazlehurst officiated. Archie's lifelong friend, Jerry Little of Pasacagoula, as well as Dr. Fred McDonnell of Hazlehurst delivered eulogies. Stringer Family Funeral Services in Hazlehurst handled arrangements.

Mr. Bass was born Jan. 23, 1917, to Phillip Benjamin Bass and Mary Balsorah Thompson Bass. He was a native and lifelong resident of the Bridgeport Community in Simpson County and graduated from New Hebron High School in 1935. From 1936 through 1938 he was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp, Company 4442, Collins, MS and served as Clerk of the Corp. Mr. Bass was a supervisor at Copiah Manufacturing Lumber Company in Hazlehurst until his retirement, and continued to stay active and work on his farm throughout his life. He was a lifelong member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where he was church treasurer for 30 years, an ordained and active Deacon for over 40 years, and served in many areas of church activity.

Mr. Bass was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Mae Russell Bass, and two sons, Archie (Jimmy) Bass, Jr. and Noel Bass.

Survivors include: daughter, Vicki Bass Ramsey and husband Herbert of Hazlehurst; grandchildren, David Bass and wife Lisa, Steve Bass and wife Ginger, Sherri Bass Harlan and husband Harley, and Shanna Bass Rutland and husband Walter; and 8 great grandchildren.
