Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at University Baptist Church for Mrs. Gertrude Bass Smith, 80, of Vicksburg, who died April 13, 1989 at Vicksburg Medical Center.
Dr. Carl Dickerson will officiate. Graveside services will be 5 p.m. Sunday in Wesson Cemetery in Wesson.
Mrs. Smith had been a resident of Vicksburg since 1987 and was a former longtime resident of Hattiesburg. She was a native of Bridgeport and a graduate of Mississippi Woman's College (now William Carey College). She was a retired science school teacher who taught in Magnolia, Biloxi and Forrest County public school systems, and at William Carey College. She was a member of the Mississippi Poetry Society, Colonial Dames, 17th Century DAR, MEA and University Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, B.Frank Smith Jr. in 1987.
Survivors include one son, Riley F. Smith of San Rafael, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. Hendrick D. (Mary Gayle) Carleton of Vicksburg; four grandchildren; one brother, Arch Bass of Pinola; and two sisters, Leona Bush of Eight Mile, Ala., and Marcia Brown of Summit.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home.
