Mrs. M. F. Smith's brother buried in Arlington Cemetery Military rites were held at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va., on Nov. 9 for Eugene Pascal Thompson Bass, master sergeant, USA (Retired), a native Mississippian.

Dr. and Mrs. B. Frank Smith of Hattiesburg attended the services at Arlington. Born in Simpson County, Mr. Bass was the son of Philip B. and Mary Balsorah Thompson Bass.

Following his retirement from the United States Army, he resided in Little Falls, N.Y. During his army career, he served in the European Theater of Operations, Germany, and in Korea.

His decorations and awards included the Bronze Star with "V" device for valor; Good Conduct Medal (5 awards, 3 years each); American Defense Medal with Foreign Service clasp; European, African, Middle Eastern Theater medals with two bronze stars (Rhineland and Central Europe).

Mr. Bass is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lucy M, Bass, Little Falls; and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. B. Frank Smith, Hattiesburg; Mrs. B. L. Caldwell, Mrs. Mary Clary, Philip B. Bass, Jackson; Mrs. Henry L. Brown, Summit; Archie Bass, Pinola; and Mrs. Claude A. Bush, Sr., Mobile, Ala.
