Richard "Furman" Emory, son of John Pinkney Emory and Harriett Keziah "Kessie" Buckner Emory, married Martha Whittemore on September 16, 1920, Buncombe County, North Carolina, Married Martha Whittemore.

Martha was a school teacher

Richard Furman Emory, Sr., 70, died Friday in a Buncombe County, Hospital after a long illness.

Surviving are his wife, Martha Whittemore Emory, a daughter Miss Ruth Emory, three sons, Vince Emory, Clyde Emory and Robert Emory all of the home; two sisters, Pansy Emory Garrison and Esta Emory Deaver; two brothers, Woodson Emory and Wilburn Emory, all of Weaverville, North Carolina.

Services will be held at 2pm Sunday in Ivy Hill Baptist Church of which he was a member.

Rev. F. R. Layell, Rev. Alec Buckner and Rev. Worth Emory will officiate. Pallbearers will be nephews.

Burial will follow services at Ivy Hill Cemetery, Buncombe County, North Carolina.

Furman was a Veteran of WW1. Company A 120th Infantry, saw action in France.
