OBITUARY

THE CHARITON HERALD-PATRIOT
Chariton, Iowa
November 7, 1918

Mrs. C. D. Adcock departed this life at her home near Russell November 3, 1918, at the age of 33 years, 8 months and 27 days, after a brief illness. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. J. R. Buckley, were held at the home Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, after which the remains were laid to rest in the LaGrange cemetery.

Grace Yerty, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Yerty, was born in LaGrange, Lucas county, Iowa, February 7, 1885. On August 30, 1904, she was united in marriage to Mr. Charles Delmer Adcock. To this union there were born seven children, one of whom died in infancy. Her husband and six children, whose ages range from 13 years to an infant but a few days old, survive her. These children are Orval D., Everett A., Fern Juanita, Mildred Marie, Opal and Charles Delmer Jr. Her father, mother, two brothers and six sisters are also living.

Mrs. Adcock was converted in a meeting held at the Charles Hollinghead farm on September 30, 1917, and received the gift of the Holy Ghost October 7, 1917. She was a devoted wife and mother, and with a full purpose of heart she endeavored to bring her children up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, and departed this life praising God and rejoicing in the hope of eternal life. To the sorrowing relatives the deep sympathy of a host of friends will be extended.

Note: Grace Yerty Adcock died from complications of the Spanish Influenza during the Pandemic of 1918 and from the recent birth of her son. Her many friends wished to pay their respects and, to illustrate the great fear of the Flu, her open casket was displayed in the front window of her home so friends and relatives could safely pay their respects.

This bit of history supplied by Charles M. Wright, a great grand nephew of Grace.
