Lars Thorson, well known pioneer of Brandon, passed away last Saturday, May 19, after a month's illness with influenza. Mr. Thorson was born Oct. 1, 1849 at Vagle Nummedal, Norway. He came to Rock county, Wisconsin with his parents in 1866 and lived there for seven years. Then he came to Douglas county in 1873. He was married to Anne Stuberg, Oct. 8, 1876, and they resided on a farm in Moe township until nine years ago, when they moved to Brandon. Mrs. Thorson passed away on Aug. 7, of last year. He leaves to mourn his loss, six daughters and two sons as follows: Mrs. O. B. Arntson, Mrs. Meyer Skrove of Brandon; Martin and Mrs. Hans Helgeson of Moe; Mrs. Axel Wicklander and Mrs. Carl Scherrer of Alexandria; Miss Minnie Thorson and Oscar of Minneapolis; also two brothers, Martin Sand of Duluth and Knute Sand of Glentworth, Sask, Canada. The children who have preceded him in death are: Alfred, Carl, Dena and Arthur; Dena and Arthur in May, 1927 and Carl, Sept. 28, 1923, and Alfred, eighteen years ago. There are also seventeen grandchildren. One granddaughter, Serena Thorson, made her home with her grandparents since she was a year old. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the house and 1:30 from the Grace Lutheran church. Rev. J. A. Peterson had charge of the services. The pallbearers were: Knute Landru, Halvor Landru, Theodore, Landru, Ole Hanson, Nels Nelson and John Thompson.
