James was the 10th child born on the family farm in Center Township. In his adult years he moved and operated the Boyden, IA. Lowery General Store with his two older brothers. He married Frances Lanning and they had their first child there.
He went back to Janesville, WI., when his father needed help/assisting in farming. He did oversee his fathers estate and operated the Leyden General Store (on Hwy. 14)Center Township in 1902 for a number of years.
This building continued in operation into the 1990s with cousin Stanley/daughter Colleen Lowry farming in that Center Township land/shopping Leyden store 70 years later.
James relocated/moving to Texas, S.D. and eventually settling in Calif. His wife & family(five children) were raised/assisted in his business.
He was the proprietor of a fresh produce stand (J.S.Lowry Market)on Main St. in Alhambra, Calif.
He did reside in Elsinore where he opened a Calif.resort that movie stars stayed at-called Showboat Camp. This was his final business and passed away in Elsinore.
He and his wife were blessed with 7 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He continues to have many Lowry cousins.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Janice M. Lowry. He rests with his wife who joined him thirty two years later to be eternally together.
