Catherine Mayer
Death brought to a close the long and useful life of one of New Prague's' oldest residents when on Sunday evening Mrs. Catherine Mayer passed to her eternal rest. She had been in failing health for several years and the last four days of her life were confined to her bed with bronchial asthma.
Funeral services were held Thursday morning at ten o'clock from the St. Wenceslaus Catholic church, the Rev. Father C.F. Popelka officiating.
Interment was made in the St. Wenceslaus cemetery. The pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased namely: Leo Murphy, Leonard Huff, Werner Mayer, Adalbert Mayer, Leonard Stanek and Harold Cummings.
Catherine Mayer was born in Luxembourg, Germany of March 24, 1856, thus being 85 years old at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Barthelmer Schoenecker and came to America in 1858 and settled on a farm four miles northwest of New Prague, where she grew up to fine womanhood. She was united in marriage to Christ Mayer, at Union Hill on Feb 22, 1876. To this union nine children were born of whom two daughters and a son preceded their mother in death. Mr. Mayer passed away in 1927. She had been a loving and kind mother and a friendly neighbor. During the time of her life, she was an ardent worker in the church. She was a member of the "Maria Hill" society and a fervent worker in the organizations as long as health permitted.
Mrs. Mayer is survived by Albert F Mayer, Leonard H Mayer, and Anastasia of New Prague, Peter J. and Mrs. Hubert Roehl, (Agnes) of Minneapolis and Francis (Mrs. John Huff) of Kilkenny, also 15 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. (Published Feb 2, 1941; the paper of Feb 13 listed all the out of town relatives and friends that attended)
